In the News: Connecticut Proceeding Full Steam Ahead in Building First Statewide Curriculum on Black and Latino History

The PA19-12 curriculum effort was recently highlighted in an article on Connecticut By the Numbers. The article states:

Even as COVID-19 barraged the state, the SERC team on this project moved ahead with virtual focus groups, in concert with the Advisory Group, which has been working primarily through nine smaller committees.  The Advisory Group’s initial meeting was held last November, and a second session in January.  Plans for a March meeting were cancelled as COVID-19 hit Connecticut, replaced by a virtual meeting in May.  Plans are now in place for meetings in July, September and November.

First Virtual Advisory Group Meeting

On May 29, 2020, our first virtual Advisory Group meeting was held with over 60 participants, including Representative Gibson and Representative Sanchez.  The purpose of this meeting was to update Advisory Group members on Committee work completed since March.  The overwhelming response was extremely positive with comments such as “with this curriculum we have an opportunity to radically reimagine how our history is told” and “the content of this course is needed to heal our nation”.  The commitment and contributions of Committee members during this difficult time was honored and recognized.  Meeting artifacts can be found here:
